Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch

Last weekend, we drove out to Pilot Point to visit Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch.  We'd seen this zoo-like ranch on an episode of Dirty Jobs a while back, and we'd wanted to take Grant for some time.  However, they are closed in the winter months, and just opened up for the season about two weeks ago.

We chose the perfect day.  Overcast and cool; hardly anyone was there.  Grant had a wonderful time seeing all the animals, visiting the petting zoo, petting a real deer, and even got to see a joey up close!

He saw lots of monkeys of all sizes, including lemurs.

Here is Grant doing his monkey impersonation.

Sloths!

This little guy was a rescue deer.  He was hit by a car when he was a baby.  He was taken in by a private family and nursed back to health, but his jaw was never repaired, so it healed funny.  But he's a happy and healthy deer, and Grant really delighted in petting him.

And here is why there are two fences separating people from bears.  Grant, apparently, would like to offer up his yummy little arm to TWO BIG bears named Barnaby and Bailey.

These bears are also rescue bears.  They are only 3 years old.  They will get about 40% bigger.  Yikes!

This one was Barnaby.

Of course, Grant spotted the tractors right away, and had to go see them.   He loves all things trucks and equipment.

And lastly, here is is chasing Mommy.  He was going to "get" me.  :-)
