Party Time!

It's almost like he knew this day was going to be awesome.  Look at that happy little face!

We had a giraffe party!  I hired my lovely friend Romonia to take pictures for us so we could enjoy Ryan, his party and each other instead of trying to capture every photography moment, and we haven't gotten those back yet, but here are a few iPhone pics from the party.

Same cake lady as always.  She makes amazing cakes!

Even though I think smash cakes are over-rated (after Grant barely touched his!), and after I had only ordered a cupcake, the amazing cake lady made an extra smash cake anyway, because she "had the extra batter"!  Whatever, we ate cake for days!

Getting everything ready...

And guess who LOVED ALL OF IT.  The kid that eats everything!

He especially loved the icing!

Sweet little 1-year old!

More and better pictures to come!

Dear Ryan...

Dear Ryan,

It's your first birthday!  My, how time escaped us.

From the very first moment we held you in our arms, we knew you were ours.  And every moment since - all those sleepless nights, dirty diapers, tears (yours and mine!) along with precious baby sighs, giggles, babbles and baby shrieks - we've been thrilled that you've completed our little family.  I am surrounded by boys - just the way I always wanted it.

People used to tell me that kids are always so different.  But I said, no, not my boys.  But, boy was I wrong!  From the color of your hair and eyes to the size of your little body, you are so different from your brother.  You are the adventurous one - taking risks with gravity, tasting everything, eating EVERYTHING, not interested in TV, but very interested in all the things you're not supposed to have!  You cannot be left unattended on any surface, and changing your diaper is like wrestling a cat!  You are on the move non-stop, and do not have time to sit down for a wardrobe change, bath, or car ride.

I have this sneaky suspicion that you will question everything in life and never be satisfied with status quo.

We are fine with that, of course.

Everything about you (and your brother) is absolutely perfect, and we wouldn't trade you for anything in the world.

Grant made us a family, but you, Ryan, you completed it, and we couldn't possibly be happier.

Happy birthday, Ryan.  May all your days be filled with sunshine, family, laughter, and lots and lots of love.
